Dirk Baker had never felt freer than when he'd decided to leave his brother's household. 

At first he thought that he might help the Taveryns, his supposed family, grow hops for the ale, as a peasant of his station would do - but then he decided to cast aside the chains of his class.

Because although he might be a peasant, he was more than just that...
...he was a music connoisseur, a husband, a father, a born entertainer! He thought that there should be someplace for people to go to live freely - without restrictions and ridiculous family expectations!
